Adopt A Service Person
We are so happy that we have been able to provide our annual Adopt A Service Program to our local service members for over 30 years now! This program allows families to “adopt” single service members for a day that is usually spent with family, Thanksgiving.
This program matches single service members with host families in the Hampton Roads and Fort Lee area. The USO Dunkin’ Donuts Adopt-A-Service person program strives to provide a genuine family environment which the service members may be accustomed too. We place service members into your home for the Thanksgiving Day holiday, to enjoy a nice dinner in a family atmosphere. The day events may include: watching football games, parades, movies, outdoor activities-football, basketball, etc.
Individuals are adopted into the homes in groups of two or more or the “Buddy System”. As a host family, transportation of the service member is required from the pick up site to your home and back.
In order to participate in this program, you must register to be a host family. Contact information and home address is required during registration so that we know where service members are at for the day.
For the 2018 season, we no longer have registration availabilities for families to host in the Peninsula and Southside area at this time, as the number of host families needed is contingent on the amount of service members who need to be placed.
In the Fort Lee area, only host families from previous years will be contacted due to decreased numbers in available adoptees this year. Sign-ups for previous host families to host this year will go live on November 1 and will be selected on a first come, first serve basis.
Families can still show support in other ways, such as hosting a supply drive, donating individually packed non-perishable goods, or volunteering your time at your nearest USOHRCV center.
