USO Hosts An EXTRA Special Virtual Baby Shower with Heidi Murkoff
For eight years, the USO and What to Expect have hosted baby showers for military moms-to-be and new moms around the globe. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, these baby showers took on a virtual twist, which combined baby shower games, prize drawings courtesy of Target, and a Q&A session with Heidi Murkoff, best-selling author of the “What to Expect,” book series.
USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia hosted their edition of the Special Delivery baby shower series on October 27, 2020. Although participants could not engage in person, it certainly did not stop the fun or the mission of the Special Delivery baby showers: to provide a touch of home for moms-to-be who are often away from their families, friends and support networks during their pregnancies. Moms had a blast in their virtual “tables,” guessing the prices of popular baby items and answering pregnancy trivia questions to win prizes.
“The small breakout groups to play games was fun to be able to get to know some women better. I truly enjoyed the entire event” -Lesley Rose
Heidi Murkoff also provided helpful information and resources to the moms who had questions on just about everything from pregnancy cravings, to delivery tips, and what to expect with your first child.
“Heidi was an incredible resource” Nicole Pehrson
“I loved being able to talk to Heidi, ask her questions and listen to her share her experiences as a mom and author.” – Lisette Suarez
Despite the lack of physical connection, military moms all over the area appreciated the chance to virtually connect, share advice, and have a sense of normalcy.
“It was amazing to see other moms going through a pandemic pregnancy along with me and be able to relate.” – Kayla LeBlanc
“They made it feel as normal as possible even with the current world situation” – Jessica Plummer
