USO Hampton Roads and Central Virginia Hosts USO Experience Virginia Beach 2021

The United Service Organizations (USO) Hampton Roads Central Virginia (HRCV) and the USO HRCV Outdoor Adventure Team will host USO Experience Virginia Beach 2021, a series of fun, athletic, recreational, and social activities for service members and their families, to include the local community to enjoy all summer long, beginning June 4 and lasting until August 28, 2021.

USO Experience Virginia Beach 2021 will kick off the evening of June 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at New Realm Brewery, Virginia Beach, Va., with an invite only Song Writer’s Night featuring Country Music Artists and Song Writers from Nashville, Tenn., Arron Eshuis, Joey Hyde, and Neil Medley.

USO Experience Virginia Beach 2021 will offer adaptive and non-adaptive activities for active duty service members and their families. Activities for service members include rowing, paddleboarding, yoga, Trails of Purpose equestrian events, functional fitness events, adventure racing, wellness challenges, a 5K run/walk, a Triathlon, and obstacle course racing.

The Virginia Beach and surrounding communities are also is invited to join service members and participate in select activities side by side with the local military community. Events open to the general public include rowing competitions, yoga, functional fitness competitions, adventure racing, wellness challenges, 5k run/walk, and a Metric Century cycling ride.

“USO Experience Virginia Beach hallmarks the newest addition to the USO’s multitude of world-class programs and events, and is designed to promote health, wellness and teamwork, while lessening the military and civilian divide by providing a unique opportunity for the public to participate alongside our military members in a variety of activities and events in Coastal Virginia,” said Paula Moran, Executive Director, USO Hampton Roads and Central Virginia.

Key events include

  • Battle of the Brave (June 19) - Encouraging healthy competition between active duty service members from each U.S. service branch stationed in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach areas, to crown the best of the military functional fitness community as the Battle of the Brave champions. The winner of this event will compete in the Hampton Roads Throwdown.
  • Adventure Race (June 26) - Hikers, cyclers, runners, and nature-lovers are welcome to join this outdoor racing event that will take place at York River State Park. This adventure race is open for the whole family to enjoy.
  • Hampton Roads Throwdown (August 15) – Similar to Battle of the Brave, this event will connect the military and civilian communities together in a healthy competition, where the Battle of the Brave winners will compete with the best of the civilian functional fitness community.
